IWRF General Assembly announced

The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation has announced its first stand-alone General Assembly separate to an event. It will take place on Monday 14 November 2016 in Frankfurt, Germany. The IWRF General Assembly is held every 2 years and is the opportunity for member nations to have an input into the strategic direction of the sport. It is also an opportunity to receive reports and question the Board and CEO on the progress of its operational plans. Business to be conducted at the General Assembly will include elections of the Board of Directors for Treasurer and two Member at Large positions. Research into Disability, Sport and Employment

Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (enei) and GBWR have joined forces with the Government’s Disability Confident team to undertake a ground breaking piece of research regarding the relationship between disability, participation in disability sport and employment. This is an opportunity to contribute to research that could enhance the lives of those with disabilities. The results of the research will be made public prior to the Paralympic Games 2016. Signed Ball Recipient’s Life Changed by Wheelchair Rugby

GBWR was pleased to donate a signed wheelchair rugby ball from the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge 2015 as a prize at a BBRFSC fundraising dinner late last year. The ball was won by John Batters, President of Hertfordshire Wooden Spoon, who recycled it into their own fundraising activities. Sad News

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the sudden death of Jonathan Marsh. Jonathan was the Chairman of Canterbury RFC and was also the driving force behind the formation and management of the club’s wheelchair rugby team. He was passionate about the game, ambitious for the team and completely ‘hands-on’ making things happen. He also played a key role as a member of the DMG where his experience and clear thinking was invaluable and contributed to the wider development of the sport.
