First GBWR Women’s Cup

Six teams and over 50 women and girls went into battle at the first GBWR Women’s Cup in Nottingham on Sunday, 23 March 2025. The first ever GBWR Women’s Cup is part of the movement within wheelchair rugby to increase the participation of women and girls in our sport. The six teams were split into two pools and played each other in the morning session. The competition was fierce and the crossover games were then played after lunch.

Final: Flame (30) v Ospreys (10)

West Coast Flame were the strong favourites to win the final against Ospreys and they didn’t disappoint. Ospreys put up a hard fight, but the quality of the Flames was too much for the Welsh team. Vicky, Hayley and Millie were on fire for Flames. Phoebe and Claire from the Ospreys led the resistance and tried to stop Flame.

3rd and 4th Play Off: Sharks (27) v Valkyries (6)

Team Solent Sharks took on the Valkyries in the 3rd and 4th play off. The Sharks put up a good fight in the pools against Flame, and they had too much fire power for the Valkyries. Trish and Krissie led the way for Sharks, while Hannah tried to rally the Valkyries.

5th and 6th Play Off: Angels (10) v Jets (18)

Crawley Jets took 5th place from the Angels of the North. The Angels of the North put up a great fight, but the Jets took off in the second half stretching out an 8 point lead. Ella was dominant for the Jets and Abbie fought hard for the Angels.
