GBWR Supports On Your Side

GBWR Supports the Launch of the On Your Side Suicide Prevention Toolkit

Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby is proud to support the launch of the On Your Side Suicide Prevention Toolkit for People in Sport, an important new resource developed by On Your Side in partnership with The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, the British Standards Institution (BSI) and Chasing the Stigma. GBWR has been recognised as one of the toolkit’s champion organisations, helping to raise awareness of this important initiative across the sporting community.

Sport has the power to bring people together, create a sense of belonging and provide support during challenging times. The On Your Side toolkit has been created to help people across all levels of sport understand how they can play a positive role in suicide prevention by recognising signs of distress, starting supportive conversations and helping people access appropriate support.

The free resource has been designed for everyone involved in sport, including players, coaches, volunteers, officials, parents, supporters and administrators. It provides practical guidance, straightforward advice and signposting to trusted sources of support, helping individuals and organisations build confidence in approaching conversations that can make a real difference.

As a national governing body, GBWR is committed to creating a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for everyone involved in wheelchair rugby. While sport can be a powerful force for connection, we recognise the importance of ensuring that people within our community know where to turn when they need help and understand how to support others who may be struggling.

The toolkit encourages organisations to make wellbeing and suicide prevention part of everyday sporting life by promoting awareness, reducing stigma and ensuring clear pathways to support are available. It reinforces the message that everyone has a role to play and that a simple conversation could help someone access the support they need.
