GBWR Launch Wheelchair Rugby Team Creation Fund
Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) is pleased to launch the Wheelchair Rugby Team Creation Fund, providing financial support to clubs looking to establish wheelchair rugby teams and expand competitive opportunities for players.
Made possible through funding from the Bruce Wake Charitable Trust, the fund has been created to help clubs overcome some of the challenges associated with developing a wheelchair rugby team. A total of £10,000 is available, with eligible clubs able to apply for up to £1,000 each.
The fund is specifically aimed at clubs that currently do not have an established wheelchair rugby team but are committed to creating one and entering GBWR competition. By supporting team development, GBWR hopes to increase participation opportunities and strengthen the wheelchair rugby pathway across Great Britain.
Funding can be used towards costs that directly support the creation and development of a wheelchair rugby team, including:
- GBWR individual membership fees
- Player travel and accommodation costs for training and competition
- Player equipment and support needs
- Competition entry fees
- Other approved expenses that contribute to the establishment of a wheelchair rugby team
Applications open on 16 October 2026 and will remain open until 31 March 2028, or until the available funding has been fully allocated.
If your club is looking to take the next step and establish a wheelchair rugby team, this fund could provide valuable support to help make that happen.
