GB Wheelchair Rugby is launching a consultation for all members on the current classification eligibility within Wheelchair Rugby 5s. We are also consulting on the option of introducing a 4 point classification.
The purpose of this consultation is to gage the membership opinion on the eligibility of players with impairments that are not currently recognised in the WR5s Classification criteria. This is specifically around players with pain conditions, such as chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and fibromyalgia.
Earlier this year, GBWR provided clarification on the eligibility criteria, stipulating which impairments are classifiable and those that are not, within the WR5s discipline. In light of this, a number of clubs have stated that they have players who do not fit within the eligibility criteria and are therefore unable to play or train under the current classification criteria.
It has been questioned whether these players, currently not eligible to play WR5s, should be allowed to play and whether a new 4.0 classification category should be created to accommodate these players.
It would be really helpful if all members, whether you are a WR5s player, Paralympic discipline player, a volunteer or a coach, could take 5 minutes to complete the short survey.
