World Games 2022: Your chance to represent GB

Low point wheelchair rugby is coming to the World Games in Alabama, July 2022. GB Wheelchair Rugby will be entering a team and we are looking for athletes who aspire to represent their country.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply you must:

  • be a British passport holder
  • reside in Britain
  • be aged 18 years or over
  • have a domestic or international classification (temporary domestic classifications are not eligible)
  • be classified as a 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5 athlete

Selection process

Step 1

  • Athletes apply using the application form below by 5pm, 21 March 2022
  • Applications will be screened by a selection committee appointed by GBWR and athletes will be selected to move onto step 2
  • Selection is based on level of experience, current performance, and the committee’s knowledge of the athlete
  • Athletes who are not selected for step 2 will be notified by email

Step 2

  • Applicants will be observed in the league
  • Selection will be based on performance in the league and the committee’s knowledge of the athlete
  • Athletes will be informed whether they have been selected by email by 10 May (two days after the last league date)
  • A squad of eight athletes will be selected to represent Great Britain at the World Games 2022

The Great Britain low point team will have two training camps, held in Lilleshall, on the dates below

  • 13 to 15 June 2022
  • 24 to 26 June 2022

The tournament takes place in Birmingham, USA from the 14 to 17 July 2022.

To celebrate GBWR entering a low point team for the World Games, GBWR has developed our own low point game. Our discipline is called three-v-three and is played on half a court with 3 players per team. The new discipline will be piloted this summer.
