Following successful taster sessions lead by GBWR Regional Development Officer Lee Parry last year, GBWR has been working with Richmond Council and the Harlequins Foundation to launch a new wheelchair rugby club. The new club, the Jesters, will be part of the Harlequins Foundation.
GBWR delivered 4 weeks of coached sessions during October and November with 8 players attending on a regular basis. Due to the success of the sessions the Harlequins Foundation will now support the development of a club and has already begun this by having their staff attend a Level 1 Activators course, providing Harlequins kit and vests for competition, and promoting the new club in the local area.
GBWR Ambassador and Harlequins player Mike Brown attended one of the sessions along with fellow Harlequins player Mark Lambert.
The Foundation attended one of the sessions to speak to the players about their experience playing wheelchair rugby and why they can’t wait to play in a Harlequins shirt!
