The View from the Table: Official Aspirations

Dale Thompson writes:

After attending last year’s King Power Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations event I was honoured when I was asked to attend the tournament again this year. The tournament has grown in prestige after last year’s results and is in my opinion a new highlight in the international wheelchair rugby calendar.

I was delighted to be named as a table official alongside Jaz, my wife, with whom I shared the experience for the second time.

The tournament was well organised, fiercely competed and fast paced. Table officials were required to work hard and had to concentrate well in order to ensure games were running smoothly; no easy feat when being watched by a large and noisy crowd!

The King Power Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations 2019 tournament marks another international event for me, being my 5th major international tournament in my officiating career. I hope to carry on my work as an official and keep working towards my “career goal” of officiating at the top competitions around the world.

I have always enjoyed officiating at events and I am now working towards climbing the ranks as an on-court official – hopefully gaining my international licence, thus allowing me to referee the on-court action at next year’s tournament!
