GBWR would like to extend their thanks and best wishes to Darren Matthews who recently departed his role as Assistant Coach with the GBWR Elite Programme following the recent World Championships. Darren has been a key part of the coaching set-up for GB since the early part of the Tokyo cycle and has worked tirelessly alongside players and coaches and was instrumental in helping the team achieve their historic gold medal in Tokyo last year.
Head of Performance, Barry Mason commented:
“It has been a pleasure working with Darren in my short time with the organisation. His dedication to help individual players and the team improve has been unwavering. He came into the sport at a tough time, with the loss of UK Sport funding and made many sacrifices in order to help prepare the team. I want to thank him for all his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
Head Coach, Paul Shaw added:
“I’d like to thank Darren for all his passion and dedication over the last 5 and a half years. Darren showed new and innovative ideas during his time with the elite team and was instrumental in our successes which included 2 European golds and gold in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.”
