Biography
Dave’s journey into wheelchair rugby began in 2013, when a spinal injury sustained during a ruck at just 18 years old changed the course of his life. A passionate sportsman and aspiring sports science student at the time, Dave was determined to stay active and connected to the world of sport.
During his rehabilitation, a fellow patient introduced him to wheelchair rugby and he was instantly hooked. The physicality, strategy, and team spirit reignited his love for contact sport. He began playing for a club team in Ireland and was first invited to GB trials in 2015. Balancing sport and education, Dave returned to university and completed his Sports Science degree in 2018.
In 2019, with a renewed focus on training and development, Dave moved to England and joined London Wheelchair Rugby. That same year, he was invited to join the GB Talent Pathway, marking a major step forward in his athletic career.
After years of dedication and growth, Dave was named to the GB long squad in 2021 and made his international debut at the 2022 Canada Cup. He competed in his first European Championships in 2023, continuing his rise on the international stage.
Off the court, Dave is a devoted Ulster Rugby fan and enjoys watching live sport, as well as spending quality time with family and friends. His story is one of resilience, passion, and a relentless drive to succeed.
