We would like to thank GBWR official and volunteer, Tayla Clarke, after she courageously bungee jumped 160ft off of a crane, raising nearly £800 for GBWR.
Tayla has been involved with our sport all of her life, growing up watching her father, wheelchair rugby legend and GBWR Honorary Lifetime Member, Alan Ash, play for both club and country. Following Alan’s passing last year, Tayla and her Mum, Ruth, have both stayed with the sport and relied on the wheelchair rugby family to keep their spirits high through a tough and emotional year. Both have taken on volunteering roles at international wheelchair rugby events – Quad Nations 22 and WREuro23. This has been alongside their officiating roles with GBWR at league events around the country, during which they have each scooped up ‘Best Official’ awards as voted for by the attending referee and table official educators.
Following the jump, Tayla recalled her thoughts before taking the leap and said:
Standing 160ft in the air, if I dared to dream, I dared to fall, and if it all went wrong at least I could play wheelchair rugby!
Tayla’s fundraising effort will help us bring wheelchair rugby to more people and will help us to improve the sport for all involved, thank you from all of us within GBWR.
