Return to Play: Update on Tiers

We will be publishing resources and key information on the dedicated Return to Play page

The government has announced that in England, some areas require additional precautionary measures to halt the spread of the coronavirus and will therefore be placed in one of three tiers of restrictions. These start at Tier 1 where the risk of spread is described as medium, to Tier 3 where the risk is described as very high. Clubs who have been signed off by GBWR as fit to return to play may continue to play providing they adhere to the GBWR and Government Guidance irrespective of the Tier the club finds itself in. If an athlete lives in an area categorised as Tier 3 they should not travel outside that area to play and neither should athletes who live in Tier 1 or Tier 2 areas travel to play in a Tier 3 area. Travel between areas 1 and 2 to play is permitted. These restrictions apply equally to GB, Talent and Club athletes.

All clubs who are signed off to return to train will for a minimum of two sessions be permitted to train at Step 1 only. This is to ensure that individuals and clubs fully test their COVID-19 safety measures and procedures and that individuals are able to get re-acclimatised to their sports chairs. After 2 sessions the Club COVID-19 Lead should make contact with the RDO and provide an update on how the return to play has gone, noting in particular the risks detailed in the club risk assessment and confirming that all have been managed in line with mitigation agreed with GBWR. On confirmation of this, GBWR will discuss with the club the potential of moving to the next step in the 5 Step Plan for Return to Play.
