A new £250,000 fund, which will see investment of £100,000 of National Lottery funding a year, has been launched to provide training and equipment aimed at helping disabled people to become more active. The fund will be delivered by Sport England and the British Paralympic Association as part of Parasport, powered by Toyota. Wheelchair rugby clubs in England can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 to improve the quality and quantity of equipment available – this will include wheelchairs.
Lauren Templeton, National Development Director of GB Wheelchair Rugby commented “This fund is a fantastic opportunity for wheelchair rugby clubs in England to further the great work they already do in providing opportunities for disabled people to get active. We provide wheelchair rugby in different disciplines to make the sport accessible to a wider group of people, and this fund delivered by Sport England and the British Paralympic Association will make it possible for clubs to better improve access to equipment vital to the sport, such as rugby wheelchairs which can start at around £3,000.”
