Sunday February 1st saw Ospreys Wheelchair Rugby take on RGC Wheelchair Rugby at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, Neath, South Wales.
Around 70 spectators filled the sports hall to watch and support, and there was a great atmosphere as both teams warmed up for their first game under the banners of their regional rugby clubs.
Mike Spence once again captured the crowd with his commentating skills on the microphone and built up the excitement along with explaining the rules of the game, keeping the atmosphere on a high throughout the game.
Rupert Moon attended the game with his team RGC, and celebrated his birthday with wheelchair rugby!
It was a great game, the Ospreys fielded a couple of new players in their first ever game, and RGC were able to show the crowd their developing talent in young Tom Baines.
There was plenty of action and excitement and both teams along with Mike commentating really did keep the crowd entertained! The final score saw Ospreys Wheelchair Rugby victorious with a 52 – 42 win over RGC Wheelchair Rugby.
Already plans are underway for a re-match in Colwyn Bay, home of RGC.
Many spectators were watching the sport for the very first time – and the feedback received was fantastic. The day was a very successful showcase for the sport in Wales, and great to see such support for wheelchair rugby from both the regional clubs – the Ospreys and Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC).
Thank you to Rebecca Daley & Keith Jones for refereeing and Jane Jenkins &Mel Stokes for helping out as table officials.
