Following the success of the first ever Wheelchair Rugby Quad Nations tournament earlier this year, GBWR has announced that the tournament will return to Leicester in 2019. Leicester City Football Club owners, Thai Duty-Free giant King Power, has once again confirmed they will be the sponsor of the event which will be played at the Morningside Arena 1-3 March 2019.
Next year’s tournament will see GB take on Japan who this summer won the World Championship in Sydney, Canada ranked 4th in the world and France ranked 7th.
The launch of the 2019 tournament took place at the King Power Stadium, home of Leicester City Football Club, on Thursday 13th December where members of the GB team were joined by Leicester City football stars Shinji Okazaki and Kasper Schmeichel. Prior to the start of the launch GBWR Chief Executive David Pond and GB Captain Chris Ryan paid their respects to chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, and those with him who died when his helicopter crashed at the ground last month.
