Last week the Path to Paris initiative launched ahead of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Path to Paris is the official youth engagement programme from Team GB and Paralympics GB, with funding from Sport England and Spirit of 2012 and we are really keen to support and have our young wheelchair rugby participants taking part.
It is a virtual challenge which aims to inspire the nation to get active in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Games. Starting from Athens, the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games, participants can virtually travel around the world, powering their team bus every time they get active and log their activity. The final stretch of their journey will take teams through the UK so they can collect Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes from all four nations and learn more about them, their sports, and the history of the Games. Finally, teams will arrive in Paris in time for the Games to begin. Children can take part in teams created in schools, community groups, your clubs or by families if you are a parent receiving this email.
On the way to Paris, there are lots of amazing prizes up for grabs, including posters and stickers to track progress around the world, sports equipment, invitations to Team GB and ParalympicsGB’s exclusive events, and even school visits from Olympic and Paralympic athletes themselves! Participants might also get shout outs on social media or win awards for their outstanding achievements. Path to Paris has lots of free resources to encourage and inspire physical activity in all children.
Clubs, schools, and families can register at getset.co.uk/pathtoparis. A lead will be required to start up a team and then individuals can register as part of that team individually.
In addition to clubs and juniors registering to take part in the initiative, we will be looking to support the initiative further through our junior programme to offer taster events in target areas of disability.
