The RFU has been supporting GB Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) for over a decade, providing a headquarters where GBWR has been able to base employees and host meetings, in addition to delivering essential back-office functions such as finance and payroll. Today, GBWR are pleased to announce that an agreement has been made to make this support official, further strengthening their important relationship with the RFU.
GBWR CEO Jason Brisbane said:
“We are delighted to have made our arrangement official, providing much needed security and support for our sport. So much has changed over the last 10 years and the RFU has been by our side throughout. We are all extremely excited about the future for GB Wheelchair Rugby and continuing our close relationship with the RFU as the sport we love continues to grow.”
Angus Bujalski, Executive Director of Legal and Governance said:
“We’re delighted to have formalised our working relationship with GB Wheelchair Rugby and to expand the support that we provide, which we trust will be of real benefit. We look forward to continuing our mutually supportive and collaborative relationship.”
The RFU will also be providing a safeguarding and case management function for GBWR, building on the support the RFU has historically provided by managing GBWR’s disclosure and barring service checks. The importance of safeguarding in sport cannot be understated. As GBWR’s membership grows, it is imperative to ensure the foundations of good safeguarding practice are in place. This agreement with RFU ensures that not only are the best practices being followed but that the governing body has the resource required to run effectively.
