Top eight teams in Europe

As the 2025 WWR European Championships draw near, the anticipation is building for what promises to be a captivating event. Taking place from April 22-27 at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark in The Hague, the competition will host the top eight teams in Europe, showcasing some high level wheelchair rugby.

Your 8 best teams in Europe are: Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Poland, and Czech Republic.

World Championships Qualification

The championships also serve as a key stepping stone for teams aiming to qualify for the 2026 WWR World Championships, which will be hosted by Brazil. GB’s lead coach Adam Scaturro shared his thoughts on the team’s selection, emphasising the balance between development and immediate ambition:

 

“This European Championship squad reflects our long-term vision—bringing in talented young athletes to gain crucial experience while relying on our strong veteran core to secure qualification for the 2026 World Championships. It’s a balance of development and determination, ensuring both our future and our immediate goals are met.”

All have shared focused on competing at the highest level while laying the groundwork for future success on the world stage and ensuring they are keeping an eye on the long-term goal of reaching the 2028 Paralympic Games. History of the European Championship

The European Wheelchair Rugby Championship is a biennial tournament in which Europe’s best teams compete for the title.The event plays a crucial role in preparation for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles and offers direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The most recent edition took place in May 2023 in Cardiff, Wales. France once again proved dominant and, as in 2022, managed to capture the European title. With each edition, the level of competition grows, making the European Championship an important highlight in the international wheelchair rugby calendar.
