It was always going to be a tough one but GB lost 49-55 to a dominant USA team in their final pool match at the Wheelchair Rugby World Championship in Denmark tonight.
The USA were off to a fast start and kept the pressure on throughout the first quarter quickly creating a comfortable six-point lead. Despite some strong play from Ollie Mangion and Nick Cummins, GB just couldn’t close the gap and a half-time score of 29-20 highlighted the opposition’s dominance. Ollie Mangion kept the physical play up but by the end of the third quarter the USA had extended their lead to eight points. Aaron Phipps helped a determined GB team to continue to battle a very strong USA with a nice try from Jamie Stead but the USA fought back harder and despite GB’s best efforts to close the gap, the whistle blew on the fourth quarter at 49-55.
