GB faced Australia in their quarter final match today and it was a tough game from the outset. Despite some quality play, the team were just not able to close the gap with an intense Australia with a final result of 54-45.
Ryley Batt from Australia dominated the game from the beginning, the double Paralympic champion leaving no one in doubt of his skills on the court. The Aussies had created a five-point lead by half time and the gap continued to increase in the second half with the game just not going GB’s way.
Whilst the result wasn’t the one GB wanted, it was great to see some game time for the whole squad, including Kieran Flynn and Jonathan Coggan, with Ollie Mangion continuing to show real promise following his debut in the Canada Cup earlier this year. GB will take a lot of learnings from the tournament and will now be aiming to finish on a high by securing a place in the play offs for fifth position.
Meanwhile in the other quarter final matches Japan celebrated a convincing win over New Zealand, USA and Canada fought out a close encounter with the USA coming out on top by just two points and it was an impressive performance by the host nation Denmark who beat France in overtime.
