CEO update – August 2023

Met Office figures showed July of 2023 was the UK’s sixth wettest on record, with the wet weather trend continuing into August. While the poor weather has ruined many a UK staycation, the frequent wheelchair rugby action across the summer has done its part to keep your wet summer blues at bay.

Congratulations to the Leicester Tigers, who were crowned champions of our newly restructured Premiership. The WR5s League has continued its strong growth with four new teams joining this year. Our first collaborative piece of content with our new partner Socios was an immensely fun day of wheelchair rugby education, and we are very much looking forward to sharing more of that content with you.

GB attended a Paralympics test event in Paris against Netherlands and two France teams. This provided some much needed competition since the summer break supporting the build up to the IWRC in October.

As we enter the second half of the financial year, we will be launching some exciting new campaigns focusing on recruitment and fundraising. Both of these areas are critical for us to keep our sport thriving so look out for those in the coming months.

I hope you all enjoy what’s left of your summer.
