Exciting new 3v3 format launched

Saturday 18 June, saw the launch of GBWR’s brand new discipline, three-v-three at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

Three-v-three is a new discipline exclusively for low-point Paralympic discipline players. The new discipline shares several characteristics with 3×3 basketball. Our game is played on half-court with only one try line for both teams to score over and as the name suggests, there are only three players per team on the court.

Six teams came together to pilot the new discipline with each team playing five games across the day. These teams included are Canterbury Hellfire, Stoke Mandeville Maulers, West Country Hawks, Ospreys, Team Solent Sharks and a combined team called The Mavericks.

The winners of the first pilot were the West Country Hawks, who narrowly beat Canterbury Hellfire in an exciting and nail-biting last game of the day, up until which both teams were unbeaten. However, all the teams put in strong performances and the level of competition was extremely high.

There were several talent pathway and junior talent players taking part in the new discipline, these included Ky Bishop, Connor Sanderson, Bruno Carrico, David Stokes, Josh Payne-Gover, Ben Richardson, Callan Rawnsley, Luke Wilson and Sam Dickenson. Luke and Same are both part of the GB low-point squad, flying out to play in the first international low-point tournament, at the World Games, in Alabama next month.

The second pilot for three-v-three will take place on Saturday 23 July at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.  If you are a Paralympic discipline low-point player and would like to try three-v-three, or if you are interested in finding out more about this exciting new discipline, please contact Adam Simmons at adam.simmons@gbwr.org.uk for more information.
