Thursday 26th March marks 200 days to go to the start of the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge and the launch of our ticket sales.
Our partner BT has kindly provided the BT Tower to host a media and partner event the day before tickets go on sale to the general public which will give us a great platform for the launch. Special provision has been made for GBWR Members to be able to purchase tickets at a 10% discount for a 48 hour period ahead of tickets going on general sale. Details will follow nearer the time of how to access this offer which will allow Members to purchase a maximum of 6 tickets per evening session and 50 tickets per day session noting that the tickets may not be resold. There is a ticket for everyone with prices ranging between £5 and £45 before discount. The 48 hour period will start at 0900 on 24 March and end at 0900 on 26 March when tickets will open for sale to the general public; there will be no further opportunity to purchase discounted tickets. Based on the high interest shown you are advised to buy early if you want the best seats!
We held a training day for new volunteers at the Copper Box Arena last weekend in preparation for the Nationals and BT WWRC15 – what a great day! We had nearly 40 people attend, many with excellent experience including London 2012. It was great to see so many volunteers from our partner BT and also students from my own alma mater, Loughborough University. There were some really good areas covered including safe chair practice, the community hub, Health and Safety and athlete experience. A big thank you to all who helped stage this but especially Johnny Coggan and Julie Bunnage, who is putting together a great volunteer package which will help us not just with this year’s events but also to meet our aspiration of hosting more high quality international events.
We are in good shape with our preparations for the BT National Championships which should be a fantastic experience for all athletes and spectators. The schedule has now been finalised and will be shared with the DMG when it meets this week. We have a number of additional fun activities planned which will means that this year’s Nationals will be more than just a festival of rugby but should also offer something for everyone – and of course there is the chance to experience the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
