Biography
Hannah Bucys is a rising star in British wheelchair rugby, known for her determination, tactical and intelligence on the court. A high-pointer for West Coast Wheelchair Rugby Club, Hannah has already represented Great Britain on the international stage and is part of the GB long Squad.
Originally from Oldham, Hannah was a competitive gymnast who represented England before a spinal cord injury in 2018 changed the course of her life. During her rehabilitation, she discovered wheelchair rugby, a sport she hadn’t known existed and quickly fell in love with its intensity, strategy, and team spirit.
She began playing seriously while studying Physiotherapy at the University of Hull, where she graduated in 2024. Since then, Hannah has competed at the Women’s Wheelchair Rugby World Cup and attended elite training camps, including one in Italy led by rugby legend Martin Castrogiovanni.
Hannah is passionate about the inclusive and empowering nature of wheelchair rugby. She credits the sport with helping her rebuild confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose. Her ultimate goal is to represent Great Britain at the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.
Driven, focused, and a natural leader, Hannah continues to inspire both on and off the court—proving that disabilities are not barriers, but opportunities to adapt, grow, and thrive.
