WR5s Summer League Review

Dorset Destroyers and Leicester Tigers both enjoyed four wins each in their respective conferences in the second weekend of the brand-new Wheelchair Rugby 5s Summer League.

With 20 games crammed into just one day at Stoke Mandeville Stadium it was non-stop as all ten sides battled it out in the midway point of the season.

Heading into the day, Dorset and Stoke Mandeville Maulers topped the red and blue conferences, picking up maximum points in the process. However, Maulers could only manage just one win on this occasion as they dropped to third place behind Tigers and Westcountry Hawks. Leicester Tigers, fresh off the back of winning the Super Series Division One title, won all four of their games to leapfrog Maulers.

Dorset continued their impressive form from the opening day of matches and again recorded an unbeaten day, stretching their record to eight straight wins.

Ospreys were aided by the inclusion of London 2012-star David Anthony, who managed to help his side off the bottom of the blue conference and up into third place, meaning the South Wales team still has a chance of winning the league.

The final day of the league (September 2nd) will see the ten sides split into Division One and Division Two. Division One will consist of the top three from both the red and blue conference. That means that Dorset, Team Solent Sharks and Ospreys from the blue conference will wheel-to-wheel with Tigers, Hawks and Maulers from the red conference.

Norfolk Knights, Brighton Buccaneers, Woodbridge Warriors and Northampton Saints will head to Stoke Mandeville to compete for the Division Two title.
